The long awaited Victorian première of Shostakovich's Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk opens on April 24, 2009. Confronting, exhilarating and totally irresistible, this opera, which was once banned by Soviet authorities, is conducted by Sian Edwards, directed by Francesca Zambello and stars UK soprano Susan Bullock in her Opera Australia debut. Lady Macbeth runs until May 5, 2009 for four performances only.
