Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday every 1 weeks between Tuesday 28 August 2007 and Thursday 31 December 2009
Newstead House is acknowledged as Brisbane’s oldest surviving residence dating from 1846 when it was constructed for the Scot Patrick Leslie who had first settled on the Darling Downs in 1840.
Over the years, Newstead has evolved from a cottage reflective of the Colonial Georgian style of architecture into a residence not unlike the classic “homestead” found west of the Great Dividing Range. What is now Newstead Park was part of a parcel of land purchased by Leslie in 1845.
Perched on a rise above lush Newstead Park, on the river at Newstead, the house is now a picture of elegance, with manicured gardens, a wide wraparound veranda and a paved driveway. Furnished in the style of the Victorian period, Brisbane’s best loved historic site, Newstead House provides a wonderful experience for people wanting a slice of Brisbane history.
For individual visitors, the first Friday of each month is a day of free admission
