They say every picture tells a story. Well at Willow bar in Northcote on Wednesday nights, every story tells a story. It's an old- fashioned approach, transcending our digital culture, and harking back to the days of Homeric odysseys, but much shorter. This confessional oasis is a night of unabashed anecdotes from ordinary people, as well as the odd semi-famous comedian. Storytellers are seated in a make-shift loungeroom, which is not dissimilar to that occupied by Rick Mayall in the children's TV classic, Grim Tales. Two main guests fill the bulk of evening and delve into some extended anecdotes. The final third offers you, the uninvited storyteller, five minutes to regale a captive audience with any tale you desire to share. Organiser, Dan Lee, a man short on hair but big on thirst-for-narrative, is seeking in these soliloquies the personal, the happy or sad, maybe shocking, perhaps shameful, but always honest and confessional. Series II starts next Wednesday. If you feel too shy to engage in this potentially cathartic experience, you can watch. And steal some of the stories and pretend they happened to you.
