Regent Theatre, Melbourne -

Right in the heart of Melbourne at 191 Collins street sits the ‘people’s palace’ – The Regent Theatre.
Originally built in 1929, the decadent interior was based on the lavish New York Capitol Theatre. The Regent has woven a colourful history since its inception, and has served as a Cinema, a ballroom, suffered a devastating fire in 1945, was resurrected despite the scarcity of building materials available during the war, installed some of Australia’s foremost cinematic technology and then lay dormant for much of the 70s and 80s. 1990 saw a renaissance in glamour and the Regent was meticulously restored to its former glory, reinstating the theatre as the premier venue for theatre and Musicals.
With a total capacity of over 2000 people, the Regent Theatre stage has held world class musicals, including Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Sunset Boulevard, Fiddler on the Roof, Annie, Disney’s The Lion King and Wicked – The Broadway Musical.
Combining elegance and class invoked by the lavish Hollywood styled interior, state of the art technology and the ease of accessibility afforded by its CBD location, The Regent Theatre continues to entertain Melbournians to this day.
